Artist Statement
“My body of work, consisting of four in-the-round "rockets" and four wall-mounted pieces, draws extensively from the imaginative artistic trends of the 1960s alongside the bold and spirited aesthetics associated with Mid-century Modern design, taking primary inspiration from events like the 1964 New York World's Fair, as well as home decor, architecture, and graphics from this period.
Both mini collections are made from a mix of painted birch, stained walnut, and steel rods. The designs are characterized by their use of striking dynamic shapes, complemented by a vivid color scheme of yellows, greens, blues, and oranges, with accenting pops of rich browns and chrome pulled directly from '60s iconography, and place formal emphasis upon unity and balance through line variation and unique joinery.
In blending these elements and motifs, I've aimed to create engaging, eclectic pieces that encompass the energetic, nostalgic, and kitschy spirit of Retrofuturism while evoking a sense of wonder and possibility.”
