Mid-century mobile
✦ Steel Sculpture Installation, 9’ x 4’ x 4’
Inspired by Imagineer Rolly Crump's Tower of the Four Winds and other kinetic steelworks from the late 1960s, Mid-century Mobile embodies the whimsy and imaginative spirit characteristic of childhood through a variety of elements. The dynamic, flowing network of curved and straight lines provides a framework for an array of unique shapes, which, paired with a lively yet earthy color scheme featuring a range of vibrant greens, calming blues, yellow, and orange, reflects the connections we foster over time and the playful exploration of the world around us.
Mid-century Mobile was initially constructed in the spring of 2023 and installed in front of the Sims Art Building and the Porter Center for Performing Arts at Brevard College, NC, from May 2023 to July 2024. The piece currently resides at the artist's home in Clinton, SC, and was refreshed in 2025 after being damaged during Hurricane Helene.
